Web Site Philosophy, Policy & Disclaimers
Last updated on 07 July 2018

"We aim to treat you as we would have ourselves treated."
"If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything" - Mark Twain

  1. SITE DESIGN OBJECTIVES AND CONSIDERATIONS:
We hope and expect that you'll have a pleasant and fruitful viewing experience at our Web site! We designed it to be content-rich (rather than "cool" or "jazzy") and have tried to make it useful to all site visitors. We've tried to keep it simple in appearance, with a modest use of graphics, so as to keep it nimble. It is mainly a plain-text-based site, using resizable tables, allowing you to adjust across a broad range both the window size and the browser's text size, thereby enabling you to read all the information easily. Our site is best viewed at 1024 x 768 or better resolution. We designed the site primarily for via Internet Explorer (the most popular browser by far, and having several nice extensions), but most (not all) of its features work well enough with other browsers. Pages are designed without frames and with resizable tables, which enables you to adjust both window and text for optimum legibility (and also  facilitates printing).

    PAGE LOADING PERFORMANCE:
Due to resource constraints, we currently have a relatively small number of very information-packed Web pages, some with lots of content. We don't have the resources to split the content into smaller, faster-loading pages so we ask for your understanding and tolerance in waiting for these pages to load. Being experienced IT specialists, we are very aware indeed of Internet performance issues! We designed and tuned each page to load as quickly as possible, generally avoiding use of graphics and using simple HTML in most places. For example, the resolution of the image of the breaking wave that forms the background of our home page is selected according to the resolution of the monitor that you're using: a smaller image being used if it is detected that you're at a low-resolution monitor and larger image being used if you're at a high-resolution monitor. Also, some pages have dynamic links to pages from other Web sites -- such as newsfeeds and search functions -- that we thought would be useful to you. The continuous availability, Web server performance and network link speed of such external sites is beyond our control, and they occasionally slow down the loading of our own site's pages (which would otherwise load much more quickly).

    BROKEN LINKS:
There always will be some "broken" links to pages on other sites, sometimes referred to as "link rot". We used fixed URLs (or "permalinks") for each of our own Web pages, so that you can always bookmark them. However, many other Web sites (such as news organisations) operate in such a way that links are regularly modified and/or deleted, and it is impossible for us with out extremely limited resources to keep track of such changes. Sometimes the content is moved to other pages on those sites, and If you find any such changed pages would you please advise us of the old and new URLs so that we may update our links. You can click a link at the bottom of many of the our site's pages, designed to make it easy for you to send us with such information via e-mail.

  2. OUR AIM:
We want this to be truly a "WWW" Web site, and by this we mean: "Win-Win-Win" for all parties ... Firstly, for all site visitors but especially our customers. Secondly, for our business partners on whose behalf we resell and support some outstanding products. And lastly, for ourselves -- by offering superior products, services and information from which we expect YOU will derive great benefit, satisfaction, and enjoyment.

We strive to solve our customers' problems profitably -- for all parties concerned. With more than three decades of mainstream IT industry experience, we are ready to act as your "right-hand man". We can help you  research IT solutions, act as devil's advocate when you're making tactical or strategic decisions, give you independent assessments of vendor or third-party proposals, act as your troubleshooter and help you to resolve issues. Distance need not be an issue, since many of these things can be done remotely, over the Web and by telephone. We can help you on a short-term, medium-term, fill-in, casual or part-time consulting engagement basis. One of our key operating aims that our customers have appreciated greatly has always been to maintain constant contact and to provide RAPID RESPONSIVENESS -- "same day service".

  3. We have a fundamental belief in -- and continually strive for -- professionalism, good fast service, fair dealing, honesty and transparency. Our links to other Web sites are selected on the basis that we think you will find something of value by visiting those sites, and any quotations from those sites are on a "fair use" basis intended to not be plagiarism but to encourage you to visit the sites.

  4. YOUR PRIVACY:
We respect your privacy as much as we respect ours.

Generally you do not need to register and provide any information about yourself (or your organisation) to browse and make use of the APCS Web site. Where we do request registration or otherwise obtain information about you -- via feedback forms, e-mail messages to us, and so on -- we will treat information that you supply to us as confidential, except in cases where you explicitly authorise us to use it otherwise (for example, as a testimonial to our products and services).

  5. On this Web site we strive to provide useful and tangible professional products, services and information. We do not appreciate being on the receiving end of disparaging statements or such activities as spamming, and "free-for-all marketing (FFA)" or "multi-level marketing (MLM)" of non-existent products and services. We strongly discourage activities such as indiscriminately sending bulk e-mail, and will make every effort to avoid being involved with them.

Similarly, we do not want third parties to contact us asking for their Web sites to be referenced on our site -- usually referred to as "reciprocal linking" or "cross linking" -- unless their sites provide useful information,  products and services. We are strongly averse to the practice of setting up such cross links purely for the purposes of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)" particularly when the other sites have little or no information, products or services complementary to our own site.

  6. Your use of any information or materials on this website is entirely at your own risk, for which we shall not be liable. It shall be your own responsibility to ensure that any products, services or information available through this website meet your specific requirements.

  7. Unauthorized use of this website may give rise to a claim for damages and/or be a criminal offence.

  8. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) AND FAIR USAGE:
On this Web site, we implicitly acknowledge and honor all references to other organisations and to their products, services and intellectual property and all terms mentioned that are trademarks or service marks or copyright of their owners and developers. Our intention is that such references are provided in good faith as a service to visitors to this Web site.

In the Useful Resource Links section of this Web site there are extensive lists of links to the Web sites of other parties. We have gathered and categorized these links for our own research purposes and make them available to others as a service. Other site owners and operators are most welcome to quote links to our our own site without the need to contact us for permission, since we consider this to be a normal activity for the public World Wide Web. In some cases, we have also quoted small passages of text from other sites in order to draw attention to the valuable information they contain, and we encourage site visitors to refer to the original Web sites for full details. We regard such small quotations as "fair usage" that should increase visits to the original sites. It is not our intention to plagiarize or misuse the IP of the other author (just as we do not want our own IP to be misused) and have no intention to interfere with the author's ability to promote the work or to prevent the author from selling the work or otherwise benefiting from it.

  9. ALWAYS CHECK THE INFORMATION:
Every effort has been made in this Web site to provide information that is as complete, accurate and current as possible. No merchantability, warranty or fitness is implied.
